The Arlington Outdoor Education Association (AOEA), a volunteer-led non-profit that owns and supports the Arlington Outdoor Lab in partnership with Arlington Public Schools, seeks new applicants for the Board of Directors to be elected in April 2026.
The Board meets monthly on Tuesday evenings, typically via Zoom, with several in-person work days at the Lab property in Fauquier County. Board members serve three-year terms beginning at our annual meeting, April 18.
Treasurer: Seeking a candidate with strong financial background to perform the following essential functions:
· Oversee the finances of the Arlington Outdoor Education Association (AOEA) and advise the Board of Directors on financial matters.
· Provide oversight of accounting activities performed by outside accounting firm, including bill payment, monthly reconciliations, and revenue tracking, and identify opportunities to strengthen accounting processes.
· Oversee/serve as a centralized interface for AOEA’s finances (e.g., bank accounts, credit cards, payment systems, donations, Arlington Public Schools MOU), requiring familiarity and comfort with managing online accounts.
· Provide regular reports to the AOEA Board of Directors about the association’s financial position, including reporting on expenses, revenue and status of investments.
· Facilitate preparation of AOEA’s annual audit and 990 by outside accounting firm; and annual United Way application.
· Serve as a member of the Executive Committee of the AOEA Board of Directors.
This position requires basic experience and familiarity with accounting and non-profit finances sufficient to perform the core functions of the position. Routine and recurring accounting functions are performed by an outside accounting firm. Expectations applicable to all Board members, including attending monthly Board meetings and directly supporting AOEA activities at the Outdoor Lab and in Arlington, apply equally to the Treasurer.
