Position Overview:
We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Compliance Officer to join our volunteer team. In this role, you will ensure that both our radio and TV stations remain fully compliant with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations, Public, Educational, and Governmental (PEG) requirements, and other relevant broadcasting standards. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a background in media compliance or broadcasting regulations to support community media while making a meaningful contribution to the organization’s success.

Time Commitment: 2-4 hours/week

Key Responsibilities:

  • Regulatory Compliance Management: Monitor and ensure compliance with all FCC regulations for radio and television broadcasting, including content, technical standards, and operational guidelines.
  • PEG Compliance Oversight: Ensure that AIM’s television programming meets all Public, Educational, and Governmental (PEG) requirements, maintaining accurate records and documentation to support compliance.
  • Policy and Procedure Development: Assist in developing and updating policies, procedures, and internal guidelines to ensure compliance with changing regulations and standards.
  • Training and Guidance: Provide training and guidance to volunteers, producers, and staff on compliance-related issues, including content standards, copyright regulations, and technical requirements.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain up-to-date records of compliance activities, licensing information, and regulatory filings. Prepare reports for the Board of Directors and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Broadcast Audits: Conduct regular audits of radio and TV programming to ensure content adheres to FCC and PEG standards. Identify potential compliance issues and work with the Programming Director and producers to resolve them.
  • Liaison with Regulatory Bodies: Serve as the primary point of contact for any communication with regulatory agencies, including the FCC and local PEG authorities. Coordinate any necessary filings, reports, or correspondence.
  • Support for Special Programming: Provide compliance oversight and support for special programming events, live broadcasts, and new initiatives to ensure they meet all regulatory requirements.

Required Experience:

  • Experience in media compliance, broadcasting regulations, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of FCC regulations and PEG requirements for television and radio programming.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to maintain detailed records and documentation.

Recommended Experience:

  • Knowledge of media compliance standards for nonprofit or community-based media organizations.
  • Previous experience working with public access television or community radio stations.
  • Background in legal research, policy development, or regulatory affairs.
