Minimum Requirements
- Minimum age requirement: 18+
- Completion of hospice volunteer training
- Successful background check and reference screening
- TB screening and/or health clearance
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel to patient homes or facilities
Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Support
- Provide companionship through presence, conversation, reading, music, or quiet sitting
- Engage in life review and reminiscence activities
- Offer emotional support and active listening
- Assist with light, non-medical comfort measures (e.g., adjusting pillows, offering a blanket)
- Support veteran patients through recognition programs
Family Support
- Offer a supportive presence to family members
- Normalize anticipatory grief and emotional responses
Administrative Support (if requested by volunteer)
- Assist with office tasks (filing, mailings, data entry)
- Support special events and memorial services
- Prepare admission or bereavement packets
