Opportunity Title: Legal Translation Support (Tagalog to English)
Opportunity Description: We are seeking assistance with a translation of messages to include in their immigration filing. The translations from Tagalog to English will need to include a certificate of translation and will be included in the T Visa filing with US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). USCIS does not require you to be a certified translator, but you do have to be fluent in both languages and competent to translate the document.
Department/Individuals Assisting Ayuda Legal Department – Immigration Team (DC Office)
Responsible to: Abi Hollinger, one of our DC Immigration Staff Attorneys and Connor Paul, our Volunteer Manager

Responsibilities:
- Translating multiple text message exchanges from Tagalog to English
- Completion of accompanying certificate of translation with wet signature
- Sending completed translations to our DC - IMM team for final review before being provided to clients/included in application
Opportunity Qualifications:
- Required:
- Aged 18+ or older
- Bilingual abilities/English – Tagalog fluency
- Computer Literacy/Experience with Microsoft Word
- Polite, courteous, and a positive disposition
- Ability to communicate well with others
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Organized, timely, and able to meet deadlines
- Preferred:
- Some experience in translation work
- Previous experience working to assist low-income individuals, immigrants, refugees, or survivors of domestic abuse/sexual assault/trauma
- Passionate about serving asylum seekers
Commitment: Documents requesting translation of will be shared via email with volunteers who can then complete them on their own time and remotely. Deadlines will be established between the attorney supervising but typical turnaround time from receipt of documents will be around a week for shorter documents, 2 weeks for longer documents.
- For this specific request, will only be a few short messages and thus will be requested to return within a week of receipt
Technology Needed: The following technology will be needed for this opportunity and not provided by Ayuda
- Computer/Laptop with access to Microsoft Word
- If you would like to do this entirely remotely, you will need to either print, sign, and scan the certificate of translation, or take a photo of your wet ink signature and add it to the certificate of translation using a pdf editor. Ayuda can also print the document for you to sign.
