ACTION NEEDED: Help Wild Virginia Stop PFAS Pollution Here in Arlington!
WHAT'S GOING ON?
The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has issued a draft pollution discharge permit for the Arlington County Water Pollution Control Plant. This would allow the sewage treatment plant to release toxic PFAS chemicals into local waterways, including Four Mile Run, the Potomac River, and the Chesapeake Bay. DEQ has failed to assess the threats from PFAS pollution as required by law, despite known PFAS discharges to state waters. To prevent PFAS pollution and threats to people and wildlife, DEQ must reject the permit as currently written.
WHY SHOULD I CARE?
Even tiny amounts of PFAS pose significant health risks! PFAS exposure is linked to health concerns including: cancer, fertility issues, pregnancy complications, liver and thyroid issues, high cholesterol, weakened immune systems, and hormone disruption.
HOW CAN I HELP?
Write DEQ and tell officials to protect public health and the environment! Comments can be submitted up until January 30th. More information on how to submit comments here -> Comment Template
WHAT SHOULD I SAY?
Tell DEQ you oppose the permit as currently drafted! Templates for written and in-person comments can be found here -> Comment Template
