The Friends of Arlington's Planetarium Announce Vacancy on its All-Volunteer Board of Directors Beginning in January 2026
The Friends of Arlington's Planetarium (FOAP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and supporting Arlington's David M. Brown Planetarium as an accessible community resource for all people to learn, engage, and be inspired by the wonders of science and the universe. As part of its mission, FOAP hosts a variety of monthly science-themed public shows at the planetarium. The group also raises funds to sponsor a college scholarship and grants for teachers seeking professional STEM development.
FOAP’s all-volunteer Board of Directors does much of the planning and guidance work of the organization. The Friends are seeking an interested individual to serve on its Board, elected in January to a two-year term. Enthusiasm, a willingness to be actively involved in various projects and the availability of 15-20 volunteer hours per month are the primary requirements of the position. No special science knowledge is required; however, to further enhance the planetarium's broader audience, volunteers with a background in communications/publicity, volunteer program management or graphics design are a plus, as is any candidate who is bilingual in Spanish.
Interested candidates seeking information and an application can find details at the FOAP Elections web page. The deadline for application submissions is Dec. 31, 2025.
