Alexandria Tutoring Consortium

ATC serves hundreds of students every year because we believe that every student in Alexandria can read and succeed! Through our Book Buddies, our goal is to ensure that all our students meet grade level reading expectations by the end of the year.

Alexandria Tutoring Consortium (ATC) recruits and trains volunteers to teach reading to kindergarten, first grade, and second grade Alexandria public school students who need extra help with reading. ATC offers the Book Buddies program, a tutoring model developed at the University of Virginia’s School of Education to teach struggling readers. It was specifically designed for use by community volunteers trained to tutor students individually, one-on-one. Our staff of highly qualified educators train and oversee all tutors, write weekly lesson plans targeted to each child’s reading needs, and provide necessary reading materials.
