Who We Are
Doorways is a community-based nonprofit providing services, shelter, and supportive housing to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and their families. Since 1978, Doorways has operated the only emergency shelter for individuals and families experiencing domestic violence in Arlington, Virginia.
Our Mission: Doorways creates pathways out of domestic violence, sexual assault,and homelessness leading to safe, stable, and empowered lives.
Our Vision: We envision a community where all people live free of violence and have safe and stable housing.
What We Do
Doorways' response to domestic violence, sexual assault, and homelessness includes a spectrum of programs and services, from prevention efforts to shelter to community resources. With the crucial support of 100+ volunteers, we offer 24/7 trauma-informed care. We provide emergency shelter, next-step housing, children's services, a 24/7 Domestic & Sexual Violence Hotline, hospital accompaniment, counseling, court advocacy, community education, and more.
