Volunteer: Digital Literacy Facilitator

About the Role

Do you enjoy helping others build confidence using technology? As a Volunteer Digital Literacy Facilitator with the Arlington Employment Center (AEC), you will play a key role in bridging the digital divide by supporting adults in developing essential computer and technology skills.

In this role, you’ll lead engaging, hands-on sessions that empower learners to navigate computers, use the internet safely, and access online resources for employment, education, and daily life. This opportunity is ideal for individuals who are patient, tech-savvy, and passionate about teaching and community impact. Training, curriculum, and orientation will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

·         Lead Digital Literacy Workshops: Facilitate in-person group sessions on foundational computer skills, internet navigation, email use, online safety, and common software applications.

·         Provide Hands-On Support: Guide participants through exercises, ensuring understanding and building confidence through practice.

·         Foster Inclusive Learning Environments: Encourage questions, participation, and peer learning in a welcoming and supportive space.

·         Offer Individual Assistance (as needed): Provide brief one-on-one support to address specific participant challenges during sessions.

·         Collaborate with Staff: Work with AEC staff to align content with participant needs and program goals.

·         Track Progress and Feedback: Assist in gathering participant feedback and monitoring learning outcomes to improve program effectiveness.

Skills & Qualifications

·         Intermediate or Advanced proficiency in computer skills (Microsoft Office, internet navigation, email, etc.)

·         Strong communication and facilitation skills

·         Ability to explain technical concepts in a clear, patient, and approachable manner

·         Experience in teaching, training, or coaching (preferred)

·         Comfortable working with diverse populations, including individuals with limited digital experience

·         Commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful learning environment

·         Ability to pass a background check

This role is ideal for dynamic communicators who love teaching, mentoring, and creating safe spaces for learning and growth. Training, curriculum, and orientation will be provided.

Lead Career Development Workshops: Facilitate group sessions on resume writing, interview preparation, job search strategies, LinkedIn optimization, digital literacy and more. Foster Participation: Encourage open discussion, peer learning, and hands-on practice during sessions. Provide Individual Support (as needed): Offer brief one-on-one coaching before or after workshops to address specific client needs. Collaborate with Staff: Coordinate with AEC staff to align workshop topics with client goals and organizational priorities. Track Outcomes: Help gather feedback and measure impact to continuously improve workshop effectiveness.
