Volunteer: On-Call Volunteer Role: Hospital Accompaniment AdvocateHospital Accompaniment Response Program (HARP) Volunteers respond to local hospitals to support survivors of sexual and domestic violence. HARP Volunteers provide emotional support before and after a specialized medical-forensic exam, as well as crisis intervention, advocacy, and referrals to Doorways other programs. We are seeking individuals who can provide calm and compassionate advocacy on Mondays - Fridays, 6am-6pm. Volunteer schedule is flexible with volunteers on-call for two 12-hour shifts each month. Volunteers must be available to report to INOVA Fairfax Hospital within 30-40 driving minutes of receiving the call (the hospital is not metro accessible). They respond to hotline calls, ensure the smooth operation of the shelter, and assist in meeting the needs of domestic violence survivors and their children residing at the shelter. The shelter is about a ten minute walk from the orange/silver lines. Typical shifts are Saturdays and Sundays 10am-2pm & 2pm-6pm, with weekday daytime (2-6pm) and evening shifts (6-10pm) needed as well. Bilingual (English/Spanish) volunteers especially encouraged to apply!
