AHC gives out healthy groceries at no-cost every Monday, 11am-1:15pm, at the Shell, 870 S Greenbrier St. We're looking for volunteers to help once or weekly. Sign up on the link below.

On Monday, Dec 29, we need help with home deliveries and in the food distribution area. One home delivery volunteer will use their own vehicle to drive to a nearby building. The other home delivery volunteer will use our wagon to walk to the building next door. We also need one volunteer in the food distribution area. The details are on this sign-up. Sign Up Here

AHC, a non-profit, affordable housing developer, offers community connections and onsite programs to help adults strengthen their economic stability and build stronger futures for themselves and their families.  Programs include partnerships with local food banks that provide free, healthy food weekly.

Drivers using their own vehicles needed to pick up toy donations from Toys for Tots in Fredericksburg and deliver to AHC properties in Arlington VA.

The pick-ups will be scheduled on weekdays during the week of Dec 8.

Help keep students energized and ready to learn by creating snack bags filled with healthy, non-perishable items!

Healthy snacks keep students energized while they learn and play. Volunteers provide snacks, decorate bags & fill them.

Volunteers will start the project by learning about AHC's affordable housing properties and its resident services programs. Volunteers unable to attend in person can watch a video at home. The rest of the service project takes place off-site at the volunteer's chosen location.

After the listen & learn, volunteers will go to the grocery store or shop in advance, buying the lunch bags and snack foods. A list of suggested snack foods is on this Sign-up Genius. We ask that each volunteer make 20 snack bags.

Decorating the snack bags with uplifting messages, drawings, stickers or jokes is fun but optional. Volunteers will provide their own decorating supplies. The bags should be filled with 3-4 non-perishable snack items.

Volunteers will deliver the snack bags to AHC's Arlington community centers on Tuesday, January 20. The delivery options are on the Sign-up Genius. We have some flexibility for delivery later in the week but are not open on Monday, January 19.

When families move into AHC's affordable housing communities, we give them Welcome Baskets filled with household supplies to say, "welcome home."

Volunteers will start the project by learning about AHC's affordable housing properties and its resident services programs. This mini-listen & learn will take place in-person at Washington-Liberty High School. Volunteers unable to attend in person can watch a video at home. The rest of the service project takes place off-site at the volunteer's chosen location.

After the listen & learn, volunteers will purchase items, decorate welcome home cards and assemble the baskets. For purposes of hygiene and dignity, we ask that all items are new, unopened and unused.

In this Listen & Learn, we'll talk about Arlington's housing challenges, what "affordable" housing is, and current housing projects in Arlington. You'll hear from Resident Services staff members from two of Arlington's non-profit affordable housing providers, Affordable Homes & Communities (AHC) and True Group Housing Partners, about how to volunteer. A representative from Northern Virginia Affordable Housing Alliance (NVAHA) will share ways to get involved in its advocacy work.

Volunteers can help by purchasing and assembling snack bags at home. This is a great project for families and groups.

When families move into AHC's affordable housing communities, we like to give them Welcome Bags filled with essential household supplies to say "welcome home." 

Volunteers will purchase all the items to fill the bags. A large, sturdy, reusable tote bag with a square or rectangle base is ideal. For purposes of hygiene and dignity, we ask that all items are new, unopened and unused. Please make sure items fit into the bags and limit your donations to the items listed below. We do not have the space or capacity to accept other items. Most volunteers find it useful and cost-effective to purchase items in bulk, as long as each final product has all the necessary items in it. Small 8 oz containers of all liquids are best, since the bags can get quite bulky. Thank you!

Mentors and mentees meet monthly, at a minimum, as well as attend workshops and other special events together.

AHC is seeking 100+ passionate volunteers to support our Afterschool Program, serving students K-8th. Volunteers serve for one hour, weekly. We have seven education centers across Arlington. Volunteers will work with elementary or middle school students assisting with homework, life-skills, reading, playtime, relationship-building, and more. It is a very meaningful service opportunity, and a ton of fun!

Affordable Homes & Communities (AHC) is seeking enthusiastic, motivated volunteers to support elementary school students in 8 free Afterschool Programs across Arlington. Each center serves elementary schoolers Monday-Thursday and teens two evenings per week. Volunteers serve around one hour weekly. Volunteers get to read, tutor, play games with, and support students with academic and social-emotional activities. It is a ton of fun for students and volunteers alike!

We have a high-need for volunteers on Wednesday afternoons, 4:30-5:30 or 5-6pm at a couple different locations! 

AHC, a non-profit, affordable housing provider, is home to many vibrant senior citizens eager to learn computer basics. A partner organization is leading beginner tech classes—and we’re looking for friendly volunteers to help participants practice their new skills.

What You’ll Do:
Sit one-on-one or in small groups to assist seniors as they navigate basic computer tasks—like using a mouse, sending emails, or surfing the web. No teaching experience needed—just patience and a smile!

We run educational and enrichment programs across our affordable housing sites. To keep these programs thriving, we're seeking donations of essential materials.

You can help by donating:

Classroom Essentials: Clorox/disinfectant wipes (Highly Needed!), disinfectant spray (e.g., Lysol), paper towels, hand sanitizer, hand soap, Dawn Powerwash spray, construction paper, dry erase markers.

Cooking Kits: Boxes of pasta, jars of pasta sauce, non-perishable, easily cookable food items (e.g., canned veggies, rice, oatmeal, boxed mac & cheese), disposable cups, plates, and napkins. Please pack all items into a reusable or paper bag labeled “Cooking Kit”.
