Volunteer: EcoAction Arlington Outreach Committee

Looking to engage with our community and make an impact for the environment at a local level? Join our new Outreach Committee!

Mission: The purpose of the Outreach Committee is to support EcoAction Arlington’s vision of “everyone in Arlington being collectively engaged in creating a sustainable community” and our mission “to educate, advocate, and act to create a sustainable community by improving our natural environment, encouraging environmentally-friendly behaviors, ensuring environmental justice, and addressing the climate crisis.”

The Committee harnesses volunteer enthusiasm to expand EcoAction Arlington’s ability to share information and resources about low-carbon and sustainable lifestyles. The committee accomplishes this by engaging in outreach activities which include making contact and coordinating via phone, email, and mail; representing EcoAction at events such as local fairs, delivering presentations, and engaging in dialogue with the community and with current and prospective audiences. The work will be guided by goals set by the staff and board to achieve our strategic objectives.

Committee Meeting Schedule: Begins September 10, 2025 | 2nd Wednesday of each month from 7-8:30pm

Volunteer: EcoAmbassador Program

EcoAmbassadors is a new climate and energy-centered volunteer training and community engagement program. Evolving from our long-standing and successful Energy Masters program, EcoAmbassadors will bring together volunteers who are passionate about helping neighbors commit to personal activities that will make our neighborhoods and homes healthier and more livable.

The EcoAmbassadors training is centered on the City of Alexandria Energy and Climate Change Action Plan and Arlington’s Community Energy Plan and related climate strategies. Specific focus areas include reducing energy use and electrifying the home, shifting to eco-friendly transportation choices, and minimizing waste. EcoAmbassadors is managed by EcoAction Arlington and the Virginia Cooperative Extension with support from Arlington County and the City of Alexandria.

Volunteers ages 16 and up are encouraged to apply. Training sessions will take place on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 pm from October 1 through October 29. The fee for the program is $110 (free for students), and the deadline for applications is September 24. An early bird discount is available for applications submitted by September 13.
