The Soccer Clinic is a one-week program for middle and high school students that combines skill-building with mentorship and teamwork. Volunteers will support sessions led by our head coach, helping create a fun, structured, and encouraging environment that promotes teamwork and leadership. Volunteers play a key role in ensuring every student feels included and motivated.

Coding Boot Camp is a two-week, half-day program for teens, many of whom are part of our Champions mentoring program. Students will engage in a coding curriculum designed to build foundational tech skills. This experience exposes teens to coding, builds confidence, and helps them see new possibilities for their future. Volunteers play a key role in creating a supportive environment where students can explore, problem-solve, and grow. Volunteers can come for 1 day or 10!

Strong Readers Strong Leaders (SRSL) is a phonics-based reading program that strengthens literacy and leadership skills of elementary students. Using diagnostic-prescriptive instruction, SRSL provides students with fun, multisensory literacy tools tailored to their individual learning needs. Each student is paired one-to-one with a volunteer Reading Coach for targeted support based on their learning needs.

Responsibilities: 

·       Lead a monthly book club for adults.

·       Engage the group in discussion by active listening and ensure all attendees have an opportunity to contribute.

·       Volunteer is responsible for picking up and returning books to Central Library.

·       Volunteer is responsible for working with participants to select the books for each month and sending those titles to the library book club coordinator to place them on hold.

·       The volunteer location is at a senior center off-site, so personal transportation is required.

Time commitment: 

·       Every 3rd Thursday of the month, 1:30-3 pm.

·       One afternoon per month, plus time for reading material for book club selection

·       Ability to facilitate and manage a discussion ensuring all attendees have an opportunity to contribute, if they wish.

As a DC Food Rescue volunteer, you'll pick up surplus food from local businesses and deliver it to nearby organizations that serve people experiencing food insecurity. We serve Arlington and most of NoVA, as well as the District and parts of Maryland.

You can do rescues by bike or car, and they typically take about an hour from pick-up to drop-off.

Rescues are available seven days a week, mostly between 8 AM and 5 PM; so you can volunteer whenever it fits your schedule.

Lucky Dog Animal Rescue has an adoption event on Sunday July 5th at the Petsmart in Alexandria.

Come spend the afternoon with a Lucky Dog! We need dog handlers to hold a dog's leash during our adoption event and talk up the dog to potential adopters during the event. We also need drivers to drive Lucky Dogs to and from our adoption event. Handler check-in is at 11:15 am (dog check in starts at 11:30 am). You should plan to stay until 3:30 pm.

The final day to sign up for any event is the Friday before that specific event.

Signing up on this platform does NOT guarantee you a volunteer spot. On the Monday before the event, our events team will reach out to reconfirm your availability. You MUST respond to that email to be added to the list of volunteers for the event.

As a Clothing Drive Coordinator, you'll organize and promote a clothing or shoe drive in your school, workplace, or community, then sort and deliver the donations to our store. It’s a flexible, impactful way to get involved and directly support our mission of providing clothing to local children. We’ll provide guidance — you bring the energy.  Great opportunity for youth developing their leadership skills!

Help sort clothing donations and stock the racks in our store. Your work ensures every child receives clean clothing in excellent condition, presented with care. The Columbia Pike Partnership is seeking volunteers to support its 29th Annual Blues Festival on Saturday, June 13.

Transform lives with Girls on the Run of Northern Virginia!

The impact of a Girls on the Run volunteer coach is as boundless as it is beautiful. Coaches work to support the Girls on the Run vision of a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. So lace up your sneakers and inspire a group of participants to be strong, confident, and healthy! Girls on the Run is a youth development program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade that creatively integrates running and physical movement. Teams of volunteer coaches are trained to facilitate our easy-to-follow curriculum with small groups of participants twice a week over the course of an eight week season. You don't need to be a runner or a competitive athlete to coach! Successful coaches only need to serve as role models for girls by showing up prepared and on time, by listening attentively, and by demonstrating a positive attitude! GOTR NOVA encourages applications from minorities, people with disabilities, individuals who are bilingual and all other qualified applicants.

Coaches are required to commit to 2-3 hours per week for the season, with a few additional hours required for Coach Training and the GOTR NOVA season ending 5K celebration. The county board liaison serves as the local connection between Arlington FSS and the Arlington County Board. The liaison helps the organization stay informed about county transportation safety issues, fosters positive relationships with elected officials and staff, and supports advocacy efforts. 

Key Responsibilities 

Our Volunteers Child Advocates work one-on-one with unaccompanied migrant children to connect with them and advocate for their rights. Child Advocates meet on a weekly basis for about an hour plus travel time.

Arlington Neighborhood Village's mission is to enable seniors to continue living in their own homes as they age—safely, independently, and with an enhanced quality of life. ANV’s trained and vetted volunteers provide direct services to our members to help them age in place, and to reduce isolation and foster a sense of connection with the community.

Right now, ANV has a pressing need for drivers—our members need transportation to medical appointments, physical therapy, the grocery store, and more. About 1/3 of our members use a mobility device (like a walker or cane), or have some vision or hearing loss. Ensuring that these members have a safe, convenient and supportive mode of transportation for appointments and errands is a top priority for ANV. So we need you!

The loss of freedom for seniors who can no longer drive is more than a hassle—it’s frustrating, sad, and isolating. ANV’s volunteer drivers give seniors the gift of a ride—and connection. Being a transportation volunteer is a wonderful opportunity to not only help an ANV member get where they need to go, but to make a connection, get to know someone new, and provide a friendly interaction to someone who could really use it.

Arlington Neighborhood Village helps seniors in Arlington age in place safely, while remaining connected to the community.

We are looking for volunteers to help with weekly delivery of food from the Arlington Food Assistance Center to some of our ANV members. These are especially vulnerable seniors who have difficulty leaving their apartments safely to get their groceries. They need a helping hand getting fresh produce, meat, milk and eggs.

In addition to their headquarters on S. Nelson Street, AFAC has a few distribution sites for apartment residents and a Saturday morning-only site at Clarendon United Methodist Church. Some of our members need pickup from S. Nelson Street, others from satellite distribution sites. This is a recurring, weekly activity; of course, if you are not available on a particular week we can always find a substitute. To apply to be an ANV Volunteer, you'll complete our Volunteer Application Form, take a training over Zoom, and pass a background check. Volunteers must be 18 and over.

Arlington Neighborhood Village (ANV) relies on volunteers to provide services to Arlington seniors to help them age-in-place. As we age, simple tasks that we once took for granted (getting boxes down from the attic, changing a lightbulb, running errands) become more difficult. ANV is part of a nationwide movement to provide support and services to seniors so that they can remain in their homes and community for as long as possible, safely and independently.

ANV services include providing transportation to medical appointments or the grocery store; helping with minor household tasks or how to use technology; being a walking buddy or friendly visitor; or running errands. Transportation volunteers are needed during weekday business hours; many other services can be provided on a more flexible schedule, including weekends. ANV and its volunteers also organize health and wellness programs and a variety of social gatherings like happy hours, Tai Chi, bocce, and "Coffee and Conversation" with guest speakers. You can also lend your expertise to help with marketing, fundraising, enhancing back office support, planning events and programs for members, and more. Arlington County has an extensive array of valuable information and support available to older adults through County programs, nonprofits, and senior-serving organizations. Unfortunately, many seniors don’t know about, or have difficulty accessing these resources. CAP identifies “Ambassadors” in neighborhoods, faith communities, senior centers, etc. and trains them to be knowledgeable about the many opportunities, support services, and programs available to older adults in Arlington.

Role of a Community Ambassador

Ambassadors will spread the word about programs and support services, opportunities for social and civic engagement, and educational and enrichment activities for older adults in their own neighborhoods. Ambassadors will act as a bridge between their neighborhoods and the Arlington safety net, providing information and soliciting feedback to improve offerings that help older adults remain safe, independent, engaged, and connected to their community.

This opportunity takes place on the second or third Thursday of each month, usually between 10am and 1pm . There is also time for sorting diapers after delivery.

This is perfect for volunteers with a flexible daytime schedule who have a valid driver's license and large car, minivan, SUV, etc.

Volunteers should also have the physical ability to pick up and move boxes or trash bags full of diaper packs.

Arlington Free Clinic advances health equity by providing comprehensive, whole-person healthcare to our neighbors who would otherwise lack access. Volunteer Spanish Interpreters are needed to facilitate the communication between providers and patients. Encounters include intake, discharge, primary care, specialty care, physical therapy, diabetic education, exercise classes, and more!

What makes a successful volunteer? Volunteer interpreters do not have to be professional interpreters, nor do they have to have experience in the medical field or existing strong familiarity with medical terminology. A successful AFC Volunteer Interpreter likes interacting with new people, enjoys fast paced working environments, has a flexible personality, and is culturally aware. AFC provides training for volunteer interpreters and all trainees shadow a medical session before working solo.

Arlington Free Clinic (AFC) advances health equity by providing comprehensive, whole-person healthcare to our neighbors who would otherwise lack access. AFC is seeking Registered Dieticians to support our patient population, and particularly our diabetes management program. Bilingual Spanish speakers are preferred, but it is not a requirement. We have a great team of volunteer interpreters to support communication assistance.

Volunteer providers commit to volunteer 1-2 shifts a month (each shift is 2-3 hours) and we require at least an 8-month commitment. Onsite appointments are also preferred, but telehealth opportunities are available. Volunteers are required to do phone interviews with several decision-making staff, must provide professional references, and pass a background check.

The Accounting Support Volunteer assists with the day-to-day accounting operations of the Free Clinic including financial recordkeeping, reconciliations, and reporting. This role is ideal for someone with foundational accounting experience who is comfortable working with accounting systems and wants to contribute their skills to support the clinic’s mission of providing accessible healthcare services.

This volunteer role will provide hands-on experience in non-profit accounting and financial operations, exposure to accounting ERP systems and reporting processes, and an opportunity to support healthcare access in the community. Calling all teens! AHC is seeking energetic, outgoing, responsible volunteers to help out at SUMMER CAMP 2026!

Affordable Homes & Communities (AHC), an affordable housing provider with holistic resident services, will be holding fun, enriching, educational summer camps for elementary school students. We rely on volunteers, who are mostly high school students, to sustain our programs. Volunteers will assist staff with outdoor activities, indoor educational lessons, snack time, field trips, pool days and more. Volunteers will be able to read, play, and build relationships with students, and can develop and lead activities. Volunteers must be age 14+.

Camps run Monday - Thursday, 9:30am - 4:30pm, for 6 weeks from July 6th - August 13th. 

A volunteer shift is ONE WEEK (Monday-Thursday). Volunteers may serve for 1-6 weeks throughout the summer. One week of volunteering completes almost 30 service hours!

Join us and help level the playing field for underserved youth! We’re looking for volunteer coaches to support our Tuesday or Thursday evening training sessions from 6:45-7:45pm in Arlington. No need to run the whole session. We’ve made it easy by assigning one coach to lead a single drill for rotating groups.

When families move into AHC's affordable housing communities, we like to give them Welcome Bags filled with essential household supplies to say "welcome home."

Volunteers will purchase all the items to fill the bags. A large, sturdy, reusable tote bag with a square or rectangle base is ideal. For purposes of hygiene and dignity, we ask that all items are new, unopened and unused. We understand the list below is long, and assembling welcome bags can get expensive. If cost is a barrier, you are welcome to choose some or most items on the list to include in your bags. We will also gladly accept any extras from your project, as we can distribute them to residents in need. Thank you!

The Chorale hopes to add up to five new members to its Board of Directors (Board). The Chorale is also seeking a new Board Secretary.

Opportunity Title: Grocery Store Partnership – Volunteer Driver

Opportunity Description: Volunteer will be responsible in assisting the Ayuda Social Services Team in obtaining our grocery store products for the food pantry biweekly at the same designated grocery store within 30 minutes of the office. The volunteer will be responsible for picking up the designated donations from the grocery store and bringing them to the DC office where the food pantry is. They can also assist with inventory of all the products that were received and weighing each grocery bag for reporting data, although not required.

Shift description:

Shelter Coverage/Hotline Volunteers donate at least 8 hours per month (two 4-hour shifts) in our Domestic Violence Safe House. They respond to hotline calls, ensure the smooth operation of the shelter, and assist in meeting the needs of domestic violence survivors and their children residing at the shelter. The shelter is about a ten minute walk from the orange/silver lines. Typical shifts are Saturdays and Sundays 10am-2pm & 2pm-6pm, with weekday daytime (2-6pm) and evening shifts (6-10pm) needed as well. Bilingual (English/Spanish) volunteers especially encouraged to apply!

Volunteers must first complete 40 hours of training (conducted weekday evenings via Zoom or in person, 1-2x per week) and submit background checks. Training cohorts are held three times per year (Fall, Winter, Spring). One year commitment required.

Hospital Accompaniment Response Program (HARP) Volunteers respond to local hospitals to support survivors of sexual and domestic violence. HARP Volunteers provide emotional support before and after a specialized medical-forensic exam, as well as crisis intervention, advocacy, and referrals to Doorways other programs. We are seeking individuals who can provide calm and compassionate advocacy on Mondays - Fridays, 6am-6pm. Volunteer schedule is flexible with volunteers on-call for two 12-hour shifts each month. Volunteers must be available to report to INOVA Fairfax Hospital within 30-40 driving minutes of receiving the call (the hospital is not metro accessible). No previous experience in medical settings or working with survivors required. 

Volunteers must first complete 40 hours of training (conducted weekday evenings, in person and via Zoom 1-2x week) and submit background checks. We host training cohorts 3x year (Fall, Winter, Spring).

Children's Program Volunteers interact with the children in our Domestic Violence Safe House by playing games, helping with homework, and otherwise engaging in healthy and fun activities that help the kids take their mind off their trauma.
