On Tuesday at 12pm, we're organizing a group that can show up with posters to cheer and clap when our former AmeriCorps members arrive back at Aspire. Will you join us?
On Monday, April 28th, Aspire was notified that due to DOGE cuts, our AmeriCorps funding was cut, and we needed to cease our AmeriCorps program effective immediately. This impacts the 17 Aspire AmeriCorps members who serve our students every day after school and during the summer. They lead lessons, manage classrooms, coordinate activities, liaise with students’ parents, and help keep our program running. Our students consider them to be role models, teachers, and confidants.
Since then, we've come up with a plan for the rest of this school year that allows us to bring many of our former AmeriCorps members back as part-time employees. Now, we must come together as a community to ensure all of our students can continue to receive critical afterschool and summer support and have a safe place out of school at no cost to their families. You can donate here.
Ideas for posters and signs include:
- We love AmeriCorps!
- Thank you for your service!
- Welcome back!
- Go Aspire!
- #AspireStrong
Please plan to arrive by 12pm on Tuesday. Free garage parking is available at the Arlington Mill Community Center.
