When families move into AHC's affordable housing communities, we like to give them Welcome Bags filled with essential household supplies to say "welcome home."
Volunteers will purchase all the items to fill the bags. A large, sturdy, reusable tote bag with a square or rectangle base is ideal. For purposes of hygiene and dignity, we ask that all items are new, unopened and unused. We understand the list below is long, and assembling welcome bags can get expensive. If cost is a barrier, you are welcome to choose some or most items on the list to include in your bags. We will also gladly accept any extras from your project, as we can distribute them to residents in need. Thank you!
A complete bag includes:
- Dish soap (1)
- Hand soap (1)
- Bleach - liquid or powder (1)
- Laundry detergent - liquid or pods (1)
- All purpose cleaner (1)
- Sponge (1-4)
- Trash bags (1 box)
- Gloves (1 pair)
- Paper towels (1-3 roll)
- Toilet paper (2-4 rolls)
- Hand towel (1)
- Reusable tote bag (1)
- Reusable laundry bag (1)
- Dustpan & brush (optional)
- Plunger (optional)
- Shower curtain and rings (optional)
- Welcome home card (optional)
We are collecting welcome baskets for properties in Arlington and all across the DMV.
