The Accounting Support Volunteer assists with the day-to-day accounting operations of the Free Clinic including financial recordkeeping, reconciliations, and reporting. This role is ideal for someone with foundational accounting experience who is comfortable working with accounting systems and wants to contribute their skills to support the clinic’s mission of providing accessible healthcare services.
This volunteer role will provide hands-on experience in non-profit accounting and financial operations, exposure to accounting ERP systems and reporting processes, and an opportunity to support healthcare access in the community. It is ideal for retired professionals or students looking for experience in accounting.
Responsibilities
- Record and maintain accurate financial transactions, including invoices, expenses, and donations
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable processing
- Perform routine reconciliations (bank, credit card, and selected accounts) and resolve discrepancies
- Support month-end close activities, including preparing basic journal entries and schedules
- Utilize accounting ERP systems (e.g., AccuFund, Bill.Com or Fyle) for data entry and reporting. Training provided.
- Provide support during audit preparation by gathering requested documentation
Qualifications and Skills
Required
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field (or currently pursuing)
- Basic understanding of accounting principles
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to handle confidential information responsibly
Preferred
- Some prior accounting, bookkeeping, or nonprofit experience
- Familiarity with basic reconciliations and financial reporting
- Exposure to fund accounting or grant tracking (a plus, not required)
Time Commitment
- Flexible schedule with preference for consistent weekly availability, 3-4 hours a week
- Can accommodate student or part-time professional schedules
