Position Overview:
We are seeking passionate and knowledgeable Music Curators to join our volunteer team. In this role, you will curate a diverse and eclectic collection of music for automation programming, ensuring that WERA’s broadcasts offer a balanced mix of genres and eras. As a Music Curator, you will review music submissions from promotional teams, record labels, and independent artists, and develop thematic programming blocks that align with our station’s mission and audience. This is an excellent opportunity for music enthusiasts who have a deep appreciation for music history and trends and want to shape the sound of community radio.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Music Curation and Programming: Curate a diverse selection of music for automation programming, developing playlists that incorporate both new and old tracks across multiple genres and styles.
  • Submission Review: Review and select music from promotional submissions by music marketing teams, record labels, and independent artists, ensuring that chosen tracks meet station quality standards and align with WERA’s mission.
  • Programming Development: Develop thematic programming blocks for the station’s automation system, considering genre balance, artist representation, and listener engagement.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Programming Director and other curators to create programming that reflects the interests of our diverse audience and supports community voices.
  • Music Library Management: Assist in organizing and managing the station’s digital music library, ensuring accurate categorization and metadata entry for easy access and use.
  • Audience Engagement: Stay up-to-date with music trends and listener preferences, incorporating feedback and new releases to keep the station’s programming fresh and engaging.

Required Experience:

  • Experience in music curation, programming, or DJing.
  • Knowledge of multiple music genres, with an understanding of music history and trends.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to balance a variety of styles and eras in programming.

Recommended Experience:

  • Previous involvement in radio programming or music curation for community or college radio.
  • Experience with music automation software or music scheduling systems.
  • Background in music journalism, DJing, or working with music marketing teams or record labels.
