Position Overview:
We are looking for a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Broadcast Engineer to support the technical integrity of our radio and TV broadcasts. In this volunteer role, you will work closely with the Technical Director to ensure high-quality broadcasting by maintaining equipment and troubleshooting any technical issues that arise. This position focuses specifically on the day-to-day technical needs of broadcasting and equipment upkeep.
Time Commitment: 6-10 hours/week
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the technical integrity of live and pre-recorded radio and TV broadcasts by monitoring transmission quality and signal strength.
- Troubleshoot technical issues with broadcasting equipment, including audio and video systems, radio transmitters, and playback systems, to minimize downtime and ensure smooth broadcasts.
- Perform routine maintenance on broadcast equipment, coordinating repairs and replacements as needed.
- Assist with the installation, configuration, and testing of new equipment to support station upgrades and technical improvements.
- Work with producers and volunteers to provide technical support and guidance during live broadcasts, ensuring a seamless experience for both creators and audiences.
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, equipment status, and technical procedures to support ongoing operations and future planning.
Required Experience:
- Experience in broadcast engineering or a related technical field, with a focus on audio and video equipment maintenance and support.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and familiarity with broadcasting systems and technology.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a technical team.
Recommended Experience:
- Knowledge of radio transmitters, TV broadcast equipment, and IT systems.
- Previous experience in community radio or television engineering, or supporting technical operations for broadcast media.
- Understanding of broadcasting standards and best practices.
