Description

The Arlington Sister City Association (ASCA) is looking for people who want to actively help take ASCA to its next level of success!  If you ever wanted to foster long-standing relationships of friendship and understanding through programming and exchanges in the arts, culture, education, commerce, and government, then this is your opportunity to make a difference!

ASCA hopes to add new members to its Board of Directors (Board), including members with expertise in governance, promotion, website management, fundraising, finance/accounting, and legal matters.

At ASCA, we seek people who take a volunteer commitment seriously and are willing to donate their time and skills to support the organization and its Sister Cities of Aachen, Germany; Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine; Reims, France; and, San Miguel, El Salvador.

Under ASCA's Bylaws, the Board of Directors is responsible for (among other) ASCA's overall leadership and operation. The Board advises, governs, and financially supports ASCA.  A sampling of the Board’s responsibilities includes:

~ Developing, implementing, and overseeing policies and procedures;

Adopting the annual budget and providing general financial management;

~ Establishing and participating in appropriate Committees in support of ASCA.

Since Board members need to participate actively in ASCA's activities and advance its mission, their Board service entails:

  • Preparing for, attending, and participating in Board, committee, and membership meetings and up to two special events per fiscal year (the Board typically meets six [6] times per year, exclusive of Committee meetings and the annual membership meeting);
  • Promoting and attending ASCA's Sister City and ASCA-wide events;
  • Communicating and advancing ASCA's mission and programs to the community;
  • Understanding ASCA's finances, budget, financial resources, and legal requirements;
  • Following established policies and procedures;
  • Serving on Board Committees and supporting ASCA through their contributions of talent, time, and financial support (Board members should contribute to ASCA financially, at a level commensurate to their personal and life circumstances).

Residents of the DMV are eligible to serve on ASCA's Board and they are elected for three-year terms.
