Volunteer: Looking to Join a Board?The Arlington Sister City Association (ASCA) is looking for people who want to actively help take ASCA to its next level of success! If you ever wanted to foster long-standing relationships of friendship and understanding through programming and exchanges in the arts, culture, education, commerce, and government, then this is your opportunity to make a difference! ASCA hopes to add new members to its Board of Directors (Board), including members with expertise in governance, promotion, website management, fundraising, finance/accounting, and legal matters. At ASCA, we seek people who take a volunteer commitment seriously and are willing to donate their time and skills to support the organization and its Sister Cities of Aachen, Germany; Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine; Reims, France; and, San Miguel, El Salvador. Under ASCA's Bylaws, the Board of Directors is responsible for (among other) ASCA's overall leadership and operation. The Board advises, governs, and financially supports ASCA. A sampling of the Board’s responsibilities includes: ~ Developing, implementing, and overseeing policies and procedures; ~ Adopting the annual budget and providing general financial management; ~ Establishing and participating in appropriate Committees in support of ASCA. Since Board members need to participate actively in ASCA's activities and advance its mission, their Board service entails: Preparing for, attending, and participating in Board, committee, and membership meetings and up to two special events per fiscal year (the Board typically meets six [6] times per year, exclusive of Committee meetings and the annual membership meeting);Promoting and attending ASCA's Sister City and ASCA-wide events; Communicating and advancing ASCA's mission and programs to the community; Understanding ASCA's finances, budget, financial resources, and legal requirements;Following established policies and procedures;Serving on Board Committees and supporting ASCA through their contributions of talent, time, and financial support (Board members should contribute to ASCA financially, at a level commensurate to their personal and life circumstances).Residents of the DMV are eligible to serve on ASCA's Board and they are elected for three-year terms. ASCA is volunteer-based and works to enhance and promote the Arlington, VA community’s international profile through its Sister Cities.
