I’m reaching out to introduce an exciting community initiative called the Walking School Bus. It is designed to ensure that children who live within the 1-mile walk zone of the school get to school safely while fostering community spirit and promoting healthy habits. The commitment is one hour per week.
Oakridge Elementary School is the local school in your district, and the Parent Teacher Association, and partners run this initiative.
The Walking Bus is a group of children walking to school together, supervised by trained adult volunteers who act as “drivers” and “conductors.” Following a set route and schedule, this program provides a safe, fun, and active way for kids to travel to Oakridge.
The initiative also reduces traffic congestion, encourages exercise, and strengthens our neighborhood bonds.
We’re seeking enthusiastic volunteers from the community to join our Walking Bus team. Volunteers will help supervise the children, ensuring their safety and offering a positive start to their day. No prior experience is needed—just a commitment to our kids and community. We’ll provide all necessary training and support, safety vests, and conduct background checks.
